Google’s parent company, Alphabet (GOOGL), is increasing its investments in artificial intelligence and cloud computing in Europe. On Tuesday, it announced it would open its fourth data center in The Netherlands and invest $640 million. CWEB analysts say that Google’s continuing investments in AI and the cloud will raise parent company Alphabet’s stock this year and in the coming years.
Google has invested in data centers and infrastructure for digitization in the Netherlands for the past ten years. Google also said that the new data center would provide 125 new jobs. It also gives indirect jobs as the data center construction is underway.
Google’s newest data center will be in the Westpoort industrial estate in Groningen. Other data centers in The Netherlands are in Eemshaven seaport in Groningen, and auxiliary facilities are located in Winschoten and the west of the city. The demand for cloud computing services has more than doubled in the Dutch market, leading to Google’s expansion.
Earlier this year, Google announced that wind energy from the North Sea would power the data centers. It has partnered with Shell and Eneco to provide electricity to the buildings that will house Google’s data centers.
Google said that it has invested roughly $4 billion in the Netherlands. It has also invested in data centers and related activities in other European countries and Ireland.
Alphabet has deeply invested in artificial intelligence and cloud computing these past few years. It recently merged Android with devices to strengthen its AI offering across all its products. According to analysts at CWEB, its big bet on artificial intelligence is expected to pay off in the next few years, and its stock is expected to move upward. The stock is considered a buy.
