Google and Pinterest might be testing a new partnership. Analysts at CWEB have found a code string that suggests multiple Google ad units are being tested on the popular app Pinterest. Google has been considering supplementing its International business. Now, a potential partnership in the US makes it more interesting. The test also suggests that a likely rollout of Google ad units on Pinterest would be faster than the rollout of the partnership between Pinterest and Amazon.
Analysts at Piper Sander were the first to note a code string. In a Tuesday note, they said, “Also, a code string ‘GTHRetarg’ suggests the ad units could be Search-related or use audience data to retarget users on Pinterest.
Analysts from CWEB also examined the URLs and confirmed the code. They believe the potential for a partnership between two important Californian companies, Mountain View, California-based Google, and San Francisco-based Pinterest, is high.
Pinterest makes money by promoting PINS. Ads on these PINS look similar to user posts. The app has added a “buy it” button, making it easy for viewers to buy directly from the app instead of going through a third-party merchant site.
Earlier in April 2023, Pinterest had announced a partnership with Amazon. The new deal would bring third parties to the platform as demand. The announcement from Pinterest said that the partnership would get the app closer to its goal of making every PIN shoppable.
The recent potential exploration of a partnership between Google and Pinterest might make the app reach this goal much faster as the testing has begun, which could decrease the rollout time. The new partnership could be implemented much more quickly this time around. Pinterest’s collaboration with Amazon was rolled out after six to nine months. The one with Google could take less time.
