Google is consolidating its earlier AI chatbot Bard and adding other features under a new AI chatbot called Gemini to counter the popularity of Microsoft-funded ChatGPT. It is also offering a more powerful version that is subscription-based and is called Gemini Advanced.
Earlier, Google offered different services with AI, such as chatbot Bard, workplace helper Duet AI, and a search version that worked like a chatbot. As it advanced its AI research, the tech company brought its generative AI products under one umbrella called Gemini. It hopes to compete with other popular chatbots that have multiple features and have been available.
Android phones will offer Gemini as an independent app while being part of the primary Google app in Apple mobile devices.
The premier version of Google’s new generative AI chatbot, Gemini Advanced, can be accessed by subscribing to a new tier of its cloud backup service called Google One. It has a $10 monthly subscription and offers two terabytes of extra storage and other features. Adding Gemini Advanced to this subscription increases the cost to $20 per month.
The new service on Google One offers a powerful chatbot search experience and additional features such as extra storage in popular apps such as Gmail, Drive, and Photo storage at the same rate of $20 offered by ChatGPT.
Google said people from over 220 countries and territories collaborate with Gemini. It will be available in English in the US. It will later be available in English, Japanese, and Korean in the broader Asia Pacific region.
Google has not mentioned any tentative launch dates of Gemini in the UK and Europe as privacy concerns by regulators are more stringent in these regions of the world.
