Alleged serial killer Rex Heuermann is expected to return to court early next week. He is also likely to face a fourth murder charge as the remains of a fourth woman have been found near Gilgo Beach. Three bodies were earlier located near the beach for which Heuermann is already facing charges.
Rex Heuermann has been charged with the murder of Megan Waterman, Melissa Barthelemy, and Amber Costello. They were killed in December 2010. The remains of a fourth woman, Maureen Brainard-Barnes, have been found in a marshy spot close to Gilgo Beach. Heuermann is the prime suspect, and sources say that he is expected to be charged with the fourth killing when he appears in Riverhead court on Tuesday.
Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office, the prosecutors of Heuermann have not commented on the newest killing or the suspect as of now.
The 60-year-old has pleaded not guilty to the murders of the three women who were sex workers. Their remains had been found scattered across desolate stretches of Long Island.
Heuerman is an architect and is also a father. He has been held without bail after the remains of the women were found in the isolated stretch of beach close to his home in Long Island in 2010 and 2011.
The victim’s remains had been found wrapped in camouflage burlap. They were bound with belts or red tape. Investigators found a 99.96 percent DNA match between the remains and Heuermann. Samples of his DNA were obtained from a pizza crust and napkin that had been trashed outside his architectural firm in Manhattan.
Other evidence included his Chevrolet Avalanche linked to Heuermann by a witness. Investigators also said that he had used burner phones to contact the victims. Court documents reveal that he also had a large number of illegal weapons. He reportedly had more than 50 weapons, including handguns, assault weapons, and more.
