Ghislaine Maxwell, the well known socialite and friend of disgraced and convicted pedophile, Jeffrey Epstein, who reportedly committed suicide while in prison, was convicted of aiding and abetting him in his crimes. She was expected to serve her 20-year prison term for sex trafficking in the Federal Correctional Institution (FCI) in Danbury Connecticut. Instead, she has been moved to a low security prison in Tallahassee, in the Sunshine State, Florida, which has several facilities for its inmates.
The FCI Danbury has been the prison that was the inspiration behind the popular tv series Orange Is The New Black, while the facility about a thousand miles away in Florida is a soft, prison with low security and facilities that include a running track, movies as well as yoga.
The Bureau of Prisons (BOP) confirmed to the New York Post that Ghislaine Maxwell was moved to the Tallahassee facility in Florida, on Friday. Although she will be woken at 6 a.m. and will have to wear a khaki uniform, she will not be confined to her cell and will have access to both movement and activity.
According to a report in the same outlet, the handbook of the Florida prison mentions occupational training programs that include apprenticeship and courses in activities including horticulture, cosmetology and more. The report said that the site also offers “recreation, leisure and social programs” for its inmates to help them develop their “individual wellness concept.”
Some of the recreational activities reportedly include
arts and crafts programs
sports including softball, basketball and volleyball
frisbee,
pilates,
yoga and more.
These are not all the facilities available as others include talent shows, movies, a weights room, an outdoor track and more. Books, magazines, newspapers, an MP3 music player, radio as well as watch and alarm clocks are also available for the women who serve term in this soft facility.
A spokesperson for the BOP told the Post, “For privacy, safety, and security reasons, we do not discuss any individual inmate’s condition of confinement to include designation decisions or reasons for transfer.”
