Braelen Bridges and Matthew-Alexander Moncrieffe were both perfect from the field while combining for 33 points to lead Georgia to a 77-62 victory over Notre Dame at the Holiday Hoopsgiving event on Sunday at Atlanta.
Bridges went 9 of 9 from the field and finished with 18 points and six rebounds, while Moncrieffe added 15 points on 6-of-6 shooting from the field and 3 of 4 from the free-throw line to go along with four rebounds.
Jabri Abdur-Rahim chipped in 12 points and a game-high 11 rebounds, with Terry Roberts chipping in 10 points and five assists.
The Bulldogs (8-3), who led by as many as 18 points in the second half, shot 50 percent from the field, including a dreadful 4 of 17 (23.5 percent) from 3-point range.
Georgia outrebounded the Fighting Irish 35-25.
Notre Dame (7-4), which has dropped three of its past four, was led by Nate Laszewski’s 20 points and four rebounds, while Cormac Ryan added 15 points, six rebounds and four assists. JJ Starling finished with 14 points.
The Fighting Irish shot 42.6 percent from the field, including an impressive 11 of 23 (47.8 percent) from beyond the arc.
After Laszewski’s 3-pointer pulled the Fighting Irish to within 58-55 with 7:43 remaining, the Bulldogs countered with a 11-0 run capped by Bridges’ jumper for a 69-55 lead they wouldn’t relinquish with 4:25 remaining.
After Trey Wertz’s 3-pointer gave Notre Dame a 30-26 lead with 4:04 left in the first half, the Bulldogs closed on a 15-6 run capped by Roberts’ steal-and-layup with six seconds left for a 41-36 halftime lead.
Moncrieffe scored 10 points and Roberts and Bridges added eight points apiece in the first 20 minutes for Georgia, which shot 15 50 percent from the field, including 2 of 8 (25 percent) from beyond the arc.
Notre Dame was led by Ryan’s 10 points, while Laszewski added eight.
The Fighting Irish shot 51.9 percent from the field, including a 7 of 13 (53.8 percent) from distance.
