George Mason made it official Thursday, naming former guard Tony Skinn as its new head coach.

Skinn, 40, replaces Kim English, who left to replace Ed Cooley as the head coach at Providence.

Skinn played in 93 games (68 starts) for the Patriots from 2003-06, a key cog in George Mason’s run to the Final Four in 2006 under coach Jim Larranaga, who now has Miami in the Final Four.

“It is with great excitement that I return home to George Mason,” Skinn said. “We will set our standards high, hustle every step of the way and compete amongst the best. It’s an unbelievable feeling to step back on campus. I’ve had some of my greatest memories here and I’m looking forward to making new ones with our fans and our community. Our best days are ahead! Mason Nation, I missed you and I am honored to represent you.”

Skinn spent the 2022-23 season as an assistant coach at Maryland under Kevin Willard, with whom he was an assistant at Seton Hall from 2018-21. Skinn was an assistant at Ohio State for the 2021-22 season.

English went 34-29 in two seasons at George Mason.
