Early Saturday morning, stand-up comedian Fuquan Johnson was found dead along with others who had not as yet been identified, reportedly along with comedian and model Kate Quigley who was transported to a hospital as she was in a critical condition. All four of them were found at a party in Venice, Los Angeles. They had ingested cocaine that was laced with fentanyl, according to a report from TMZ.
Law enforcement sources told TMZ that there was a party at someone’s house in Venice, Los Angeles. Fuquan Johnson, 42, Kate Quigley and others had attended the get together. She had been dating Darius Rucker recently but the rep of Darius, the lead singer of Hootie & the Blowfish said that he was not dating her and had not been dating her from some time. Pictures of them on her Insta page were up in May.
Law enforcement told TMZ that the property where the get together took place was owned by a few people and Quigley was a resident of what appeared to be an adjacent building that was next door to where the 911 call was directed.
Cops reached the property after midnight and found three were deceased and the fourth was close to being deceased. Three of them were pronounced dead at the scene and the fourth was taken to a hospital. There is no information about her condition, as yet.
TMZ said that autopsies would be conducted at the Los Angeles Coroner’s Office though the death was reportedly due to cocaine laced with fentanyl. The Los Angeles Police Department is investigating the case and the homicide unit has been informed.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) said that over 83.000 people died due to drug related overdoses in twelve months ending July 2020, while the numbers were much less at over 70,000 in the previous year. Preliminary data also indicated that the number of cocaine-related deaths were 26 percent higher and most of them included lacing with fentanyl. Fentanyl is a powerful synthetic opioid similar to morphine. This painkiller used to treat cancer and more. It is being misused with cocaine and is 50 times more potent when compared with heroin.
