France confirms foxes near Paris have bird flu. The World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH) announced on Tuesday that France had detected an epidemic of highly virulent H5N1 bird flu among red foxes’ northeast of Paris as the virus’s spread to mammals sparked widespread concern.
The World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH, founded as OIE) develops international standards for animal movement control, including quarantine and border security measures.
According to a report by WOAH, quoting French officials, three foxes were discovered dead in a natural reserve in Meaux close to where gulls had perished. One of the foxes was taken away and analyzed.
The recent increase in instances in birds and mammals has been “worrying,” according to the World Health Organization, which stated last month that it was evaluating its global risk assessment in light of recent developments, including reports of human transmission in Cambodia.
In the past year, avian influenza, sometimes known as bird flu, has spread throughout the world, killing more than two hundred million birds, driving up the price of eggs, and raising concerns among governments about human transmission.
In late December, the virus attacked a cat in France. Moreover, it has been found in grizzly bears in the United States, sea lions in Peru, foxes and otters in Britain, and minks in Spain.
