Former YouTube influencer Ruby Franke pleaded guilty to aggravated child abuse and will be sentenced in January.
Ruby and Jodi Hildebrandt, her business partner, were taken into custody on August 30 and charged with six counts of criminal child abuse. After Ruby’s youngest son ran away from the house and asked a neighbor for assistance, they were taken into custody. When the young child was discovered, duct tape was wrapped over his extremities, and he was “emaciated and malnourished.
As part of a plea deal, Franke pleaded to four counts rather than the six she was initially charged with, according to the reports, which cited prosecutors.
Authorities were notified by a neighbor who dialed 911 that the youngster appeared “emaciated” and “covered in wounds.”
Shari, Chad, Abby, Julie, Russell, and Eve are Ruby’s six children. She and her husband, Kevin, used to run the former YouTube channel “8 Passengers,” where they provided parenting advice. Her husband has not been charged with or implicated in her crimes. He filed for divorce in November.
If someone knowingly or intentionally causes substantial physical harm to a child or allows another person to do serious physical harm to a child, they may be charged with second-degree aggravated child abuse in Utah. A prison sentence of one to fifteen years is imposed for each charge.
