Former President George W Bush will be hitting the campaign trail later this month in support of a Republican senate candidate Joe O’Dea, for the midterms, in Colorado This Republican candidate has moderate conservative views and the GOP is hoping that he could flip a state that was won by President Joe Biden, by 14 points. Bush has also supported other Republican candidates who have gone against the Trump narrative and have got mixed results.
Republican candidate Joe O’Dea had a strong fundraising quarter and support from former President George W. Bush will add to the coffers. His message has found favor with both donors and voters who are affiliated with the Republican Party in Colorado.
GOP candidate Joe O’Dea is different from many of the other GOP hopeful candidates. He has dismissed former President Trump’s claims that the election was rigged. He supported the $1.2 trillion bipartisan infrastructure deal, brought by Biden and his administration, although it faced opposition from the former president’s supporters in Congress.
One of the major issues on which he veered away officially from the Republican stance was in his criticism of the Supreme Court as it overturned Roe v. Wade. O’Dea said that he supports legal abortion up to a period of five months, with exceptions for rape and incest up to later.
Some Republicans privately believe that the Supreme Court’s decision on Roe v. Wade goes against their personal beliefs as well as political ambitions but they are not ready to speak up and continue to toe the official line of the GOP.
Although Colorado came out in support of President Joe Biden in 2020 elections, Republican hopeful Joe O’Dea has thrown in some competition into the political mix. With the support of President Bush, he could possibly narrow the lead between him and Democrat Senator Michael Bennet and put up a formidable fight.
President George Bush has campaigned for GOP candidates including
Georgia GOP Governor Brian Kemp, who won in the primaries.
Wyoming GOP Governor Liz Cheney, who lost in the primaries.
Former president George W. Bush has also helped in Lisa Murkowski’s campaign. He has tried to boost the chances of GOP hopefuls who have stood up to Trump, with mixed results. Bush will be joined by fellow Texan and GOP senator John Cornyn at the fundraiser for Joe O’Dea, who has also received support from a few other Republican senators from other states.
