Former KTVU anchor Frank Somerville was taken into custody twice within a span of nine hours, shortly after being released from jail, according to Berkeley police. The incidents occurred in Berkeley and involved alleged intoxication and a family altercation.
The sequence of events began when Somerville reportedly arrived intoxicated at a family member’s residence on Indian Rock Avenue in the Berkeley hills. Somerville’s brother stated that he threatened their father, leading the brother to ask Somerville to leave. A physical fight ensued between Somerville and his brother, prompting a call to Berkeley police at 6:36 p.m.

Upon arrival, the police determined that Somerville was intoxicated and had come to the residence due to ongoing family issues. Despite being asked to leave, Somerville refused and threatened the victim, resulting in a physical altercation. Consequently, Somerville, aged 65, was arrested on charges of assault, threatening a crime with the intent to terrorize, public intoxication, and a probation violation. His bail was set at $27,500, which was subsequently posted, leading to his release from the Berkeley City Jail.
However, later that same night around 3:30 a.m., Berkeley police received another call from the same residence on Indian Rock Avenue. Somerville had returned to retrieve his car after being released from jail. He then attempted to locate some lost property, persistently ringing the doorbell until the victim engaged him. The victim called the police, reporting Somerville’s return and refusal to leave. Officers reached the scene and saw Somerville sitting in his car, with evident signs and symptoms of intoxication. Consequently, he was arrested for the second time, now on suspicion of driving under the influence (DUI) and violating his probation.
Frank Somerville is currently incarcerated at the Santa Rita Jail in Alameda County, awaiting his arraignment scheduled for Thursday morning.
