Former Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi has died in Milan. He was 86-years old and was facing several health issues including leukemia. He was a colorful public figure and was known for leading a high lifestyle. Although his tenure was also dogged by controversy, he won the election three times and served the longest in Italy, since it was ruled by the fascist dictator Benito Mussolini.
Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and other leaders of the country expressed their condolences. He will be accorded a state funeral at the Duomo in Milan as well as a national day of mourning on Wednesday.
Although he was a divisive figure, condolences were sent by world leaders. The pope also sends a message that said that he “held public responsibilities with an energetic temperament.”

Israeli Prime Minister said that he was “deeply saddened” by the death of his friend Silvio Berlusconi on social media. He posted a condolence message that read, “Silvio was a great friend of Israel and stood by us at all times. He called him his friend and ended the post saying “Rest in peace, my friend.”
Silvio Berlusconi took office for the first time in 1994. He led four governments till 2011. He did not serve consecutive terms. In September 2022, his Forza party, which aligns as center-right joined a coalition with right-wing party Fdl (Brothers of Italy) whose leader Giorgia Meloni became the Prime Minister.
Silvio Berlusconi was called the “Teflon Don” as he survived several scandals and remained popular despite changing laws and rewriting them to save himself from prosecution.
The billionaire media tycoon was well known for being a larger-than-life personality and had a number of spouses and partners. The media also shared lurid details of his extravagant life, throughout his lifetime including his infamous “bunga bunga parties.” They were held in his Acore villa, located near Milan.
