Summer Zervos, who was a contestant in Donald Trump’s TV series The Apprentice, has dropped a lawsuit that she had filed against him almost five years ago in January 2017. She had claimed that ex-President Trump had groped her in 2007, when she went to his hotel room in Los Angeles. She had gone to his room to ask him for career advice.
Trump had dismissed her allegations and said that the charges of misconduct were lies. In January 2017, she sued him for defamation. Mr. Trump was reportedly going to file a countersuit that would accuse her of infringing on his rights for free speech.
Zervos, through her attorney, said that she “no longer” wanted to “litigate against the defendant.” The attorney also said that Zervos had “secured the right to speak freely about her experience.” Trump was supposed to depose under oath in a court in Manhattan about her accusations, next month. There will be no deposition as she has dropped the lawsuit.
In their statement, Zervos’ lawyers–Beth Wilkinson and Moira Penza said that “Ms. Zervos stands by the allegations in her complaint.” Her legal team also said that she had not taken any payment from Mr. Trump.
In her lawsuit, although Zevros had alleged that Trump had groped her in a hotel room in 2006, the lawsuit had been delayed as he was the president in 2017. He had argued that he was immune from lawsuits when he was in office.
Alina Habba, Trump’s lawyer said that Zervos “had no choice” as the facts that had been “unearthed” in the matter had “made it abundantly clear that their client “did nothing wrong.” The lawyer also confirmed that Zervos had not been paid compensation or legal fees.
In a statement Mr. Trump said that he was “totally vindicated.” However, he faces another defamation suit filed by E. Jean Carroll, a former columnist at Elle magazine. On Friday, her lawyer Julie Fink also released a statement to the media in the nation that stated that her client had “no intention” of dropping the lawsuit for defamation that had been filed against Mr. Trump.
