This month, Walmart customers in the Sunshine state can remain rest assured that their grocery deliveries will be securely delivered in smart boxes, to their door step, at a convenient time. The big box retailer is now becoming a Smart Box retailer as well. The new service will be available to InHome subscribers who are serviced by participating stores in Florida.
In Spring 2021, Walmart the world’s largest retailer tested Smart Boxes in Bentonville, Arkansas. Walmart announced its pilot in January 2022 saying that its temperature-controlled, automated Smart Boxes were able to store fresh, frozen and pantry items up to the time when its customers were ready to retrieve them.
The boxes look like huge coolers. They can be installed outside the homes of customers. Walmart employees will place their grocery orders at the time specified by customers. Users can control and monitor the boxes using an app.
Smart Boxes from HomeValet are an Internet of Things (IoT). They offer three temperature controlled zones: for frozen items, for refrigerated items and for pantry items. The company aims to offer more secure home deliveries. The smart boxes also UVC light to disinfect exposed surfaces of items that have been delivered as well as the inside of the box, in between deliveries.
HomeValet said that they were ready to rollout the boxes this month. The Virginia-based company said that customers have to buy their Smart Boxes. Although the box costs $499, there is a special unspecified price available for Walmart InHome subscribers, as of now. HomeValet also said that the customer can also keep packages that prevent “porch pirates” from accessing them.
Walmart has been testing and pioneering last mile service through drone delivery of packages, as well as automated self-driving vehicles for delivery and more. It goes the extra mile to improve customer satisfaction. It also continues to maintain affordable rates while offering the best possible service.
