Five homeless people have been shot in Las Vegas, Nevada. The shooting incident took place shortly after the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) said that they were hunting for a serial killer who had murdered three homeless people in the city in California.
The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department announced at a Friday night press briefing that five homeless people were shot at. Although details of the Las Vegas victims have not been released, according to the department, one victim has died while another is critically injured. Three other victims are stable.
The shooting took place at a homeless encampment in the area of Charleston Boulevard and Honolulu Street, in eastern Las Vegas. It took place in the evening at about 5.30 p.m. local time. The officers responded and were directed to the encampment by witnesses.
The department also said that the shooting victims were all unhoused and had been taken to the University Medical Center. A male in his fifties had been pronounced dead at the hospital, while another in his thirties remained in a critical condition. A victim who was in his late teens and two other men in their thirties were also stable.
Las Vegas cops said that the two shooting cases in Vegas and Los Angeles appeared to be similar, but there does not seem to be a link between the two incidents.
The Las Vegas Police Department reportedly said that they believed that the incident was an isolated event when reporters asked if it had been an active shooting and that they were looking for a lone shooter. The department also said that it was an ongoing investigation and that there was no suspect in custody as of yet.
Witnesses said that they saw the suspect gunman leave the crime scene in a dark sedan. The police said that they were trying to confirm it.
