Dr. Jill Biden is scheduled to undergo surgery to remove a “small lesion” above her right eye.
Dr. Kevin O’Connor, Physician to the President, discovered the lesion during a ‘routine skin cancer screening.’
The First Lady’s Press Secretary, Vanessa Valdivia, confirmed the news that Biden, 71, would undergo the removal, the second time as first lady after having a puncture wound cleaned out in July of last year.
Jill Biden’s “common outpatient procedure,” known as Mohs surgery, will take place at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland, according to Dr. O’Connor’s memo. They will remove and examine the tissue during the surgery.

“We will provide an update once the procedure is completed and more information is available,” the note said.
Furthermore, Valdivia tells NBC News that no additional information other than the letter is available at this time, but that more will be available after the procedure.
During Mohs surgery, surgeons remove thin layers of skin and examine each one for signs of cancer until none are found. “Most people can go home after surgery and do not need to stay in a hospital,” according to the Mayo Clinic.
