The Food and Drug Administration FDA recently raised last month’s egg recall from Costco (COST) to Class 1, the highest alert level. Consuming these eggs can lead to severe health conditions and even deaths among the vulnerable. So, we advise web fans to return these eggs immediately to Costco as they could be contaminated with Salmonella.
Handsome Brook Farms had recalled eggs sold under Costco’s signature Kirkland brand in November after the FDA issued the recall on the 27. These pasture-raised organic eggs have been packed in 24-count plastic egg cartons. They are marked with UPC 9661910680. The units have a Julian code of 327. The Use by Date is January 5, 2025. The company says that other eggs are safe to consume.
The eggs shipped to 25 Costco locations across the nation came from an environment that tested positive for Salmonella before being shipped. Approximately 10,800 retail units have been distributed across the chain’s locations beginning November 22, almost a week before the initial recall.
Web fans who have these eggs in their pantries or have consumed them should stop consumption immediately and return them to Costco and get a refund.
According to the FDA, Class 1 category recall is “a situation in which there is a reasonable probability that the use or exposure to a violative product will cause serious adverse health consequences or death.”
Salmonella infections generally don’t require any antibiotic treatment, although rest and adequate fluid intake are necessary to prevent dehydration. However, it can be risky for vulnerable groups such as children, the elderly, and pregnant women.
Symptoms of a Salmonella infection include diarrhea, fever, headache, and cramps that can last four days to a week.
No illnesses have been reported so far after the egg recall. Costco has not responded when asked for comment about the recall.
