Early on Monday, The Federal Bureau of Investigation launched a raid on Mar-A-Lago, former president Donald Trump’s home in Florida. Trump was not in Florida and was reportedly seen emerging from Trump Tower in New York City, late Monday evening. Although the FBI has not divulged the reason behind the search warrant on his Palm Beach property, many reports say that the warrant was executed as Trump took away boxes of paperwork from the White House to his private home after he lost the presidential elections. The documents should have been handed over to the National Archive.
There have been several reactions and responses to the early morning raid and some of them are as follows:
Trump’s former press secretary Stephanie Grisham
Stephanie Grisham who has fallen out with both Trump and his wife Melania said he had routinely mishandled official communication. She alleged that he had torn up papers or stuffed them in his pockets, when was his press secretary. She also said that they were not a White House who followed rules.
GOP Members
All most all the Republicans came out in favor of their Republican leader. Some of those who denounced the raid and blamed the Democrats included his biggest rivals including Florida Governor Ron DeSantis. Others included Greg Abbott, governor of Texas, House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy, former Vice President Mike Pence and many Republican congresspersons.
Trump’s family members and followers
Trump’s followers traveled to Mar-A-Lago in support of him. They came in several vehicles and lined up on the roads and waved American flags or hoisted them on their vehicles. Trump’s children also spoke against the search conducted by the FBI but his niece, Mary Trump, who doesn’t hesitate to call our her uncle’s actions said that the raid on his home would have left him panic stricken.
Former Trump attorney Michael Cohen
Michael Cohen, who was Trump’s attorney from 2006 to 2018, went to prison as he was convicted for covering up and lying about some of Trump’s actions posted a picture on social media showing him with a wide smile. He captioned the post mentioning how happy he was as the FBI raided “Mar-a-Lardo” and added the hashtag KarmaBoomerang.
Democrats
Many Democrats also posted comments on social media about the raid and Hillary Clinton capitalized on it by selling her “But her emails” hats and shirts whose sales help fund her PAC Onward Together.
And finally the response from Donald Trump himself
Donald Trump released a statement where he said, “These are dark times for our nation, as my beautiful home, Mar-A-Lago in Palm Beach, Florida, is currently under siege, raided, and occupied by a large group of FBI agents. He also said much more.
