The FBI raided different sites in New York City on Thursday morning. Two homes in the Bronx registered in the name of a top aide of Mayor Eric Adams, and the offices in Queens that host campaign operations of the New York City mayor were raided. Local outlets were the first to report the news.
The City, an outlet that had previously reported that it uncovered evidence that potentially Indicates that there were straw donations tied to the mall, reported about the FBI raids.
The outlet said that the Bronx raids began at around 6 a.m. FBI agents working with the US Attorney’s Office in Brooklyn cordoned off intersections on Gillespie Avenue, leading to the location of two houses owned by Winnie Greco, a top aide of Mayor Eric Adams.
According to a November report in The City, Winnie Greco had reportedly asked for donations from those who wanted access to Gracie Mansion, the official residence of the mayor of New York City. A city employee was also pressurized to volunteer for renovations in her home in the Bronx.
According to the outlet, the FBI later confirmed that a third raid had been undertaken at the New World Mall in Flushing, Queens, NYC. Earlier, workers from this mall had told The City reporters about the straw donations they had been encouraged to make to the mayor’s campaign by their managers.
A spokesperson for Mayor Adams released the following statement about the raid to several outlets. “Our administration will always follow the law and expect our employees to adhere to the strictest ethical guidelines. As we have repeatedly said, we don’t comment on matters under review but will fully cooperate with any review underway. The mayor has not been accused of any wrongdoing.”
The Mayor’s office also announced that Winnie Greco was on leave on Thursday.
Greco became the third person associated with Mayor Eric Adams, who the FBI has raided. Last November, the agency conducted raids against Brianna Suggs, Adam’s chief fundraiser. It also raided Rana Abbasova, an aide at the mayor’s international affairs office.
