‘Expats’ is a forthcoming six-part mini-series based on Janice Y.K. Lee’s novel ‘The Expatriates,’ and developed by Lulu Wang, the creator of ‘The Farewell.’ The story explores the interconnected lives of three women deeply affected by a significant catastrophe. The series is a bold endeavor to examine the domain of human emotions, delving into sentiments of seclusion resulting from sorrow, remorse, and marital unfaithfulness. The text’s fundamental theme focuses on how individuals might transcend disparities by participating in mutual encounters.
The initial two episodes provide the audience with a close knowledge of these women living in Hong Kong. Margaret, portrayed by Nicole Kidman, cannot identify her own identity. Relocating from New York City to the prosperous Mid-Levels district of Hong Kong with her husband, Clarke (Brian Tee), and their three children has caused her to undergo a personal transformation that has left her feeling disconnected from herself. The decision has effectively ended her career as a landscape architect, leaving her yearning for something greater.
As always, Nicole Kidman shines in her acting role for this Amazon Prime series along with her fellow cast members.
