Exclusive: CWEB Analysts Weigh In on 23andMe Founder Anne Wojcicki’s Bold Bid to Reclaim Company with Fortune 500 Backing

Menlo Park, CA – June 10, 2025 (CWEB News) – In a stunning twist to the 23andMe bankruptcy saga, founder Anne Wojcicki is mounting a formidable comeback bid to reclaim the genetic testing pioneer she started in her sister’s garage—this time with the backing of a Fortune 500 giant. CWEB analysts suggest this surprise development dramatically increases her chances of regaining control of the company.

The Road to Bankruptcy

The past year has been turbulent for 23andMe. A catastrophic data breach in 2023 exposed nearly 7 million customer profiles, triggering lawsuits, plummeting stock prices, and long-term reputational damage. The fallout ultimately led to the company filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in March 2025. Despite ongoing operations, the company entered a court-supervised auction process for its assets.

Regeneron’s Winning Bid—and Wojcicki’s Challenge

In May 2025, Regeneron Pharmaceuticals, a pharmaceutical leader, emerged as the winning bidder with a $256 million all-cash offer. However, Wojcicki quickly filed a formal challenge, arguing that the auction process was biased in Regeneron’s favor—an allegation the company firmly denied.

Fortune 500 Firepower Enters the Ring

Unfazed, Wojcicki returned with a powerful counter: a new auction request backed by a Fortune 500 company. In court documents filed on May 31, she revealed support from a corporate partner with a market capitalization of over $400 billion and $17 billion in available cash. While the partner’s identity remains undisclosed, this level of financial firepower could easily outmatch Regeneron’s initial bid.

TTAM Research: A Strategic Vehicle

Wojcicki’s bid is being made through TTAM Research, a California-based nonprofit public benefit corporation she founded. 23andMe’s latest filings indicate the company will seek court approval to allow both TTAM and Regeneron to submit revised bids by June 12. Importantly, Regeneron will retain a “last look” right, enabling it to outbid Wojcicki’s final offer. If Wojcicki wins, Regeneron will receive a $10 million termination fee.

“This is a classic founder’s fight, but with unprecedented firepower,” noted a CWEB market analyst. “The involvement of a Fortune 500 player fundamentally alters the landscape. Anne Wojcicki’s deep connection to 23andMe, combined with this corporate muscle, gives her a real shot at victory.”

A Vision Born in a Garage

Wojcicki co-founded 23andMe in 2006 with biologist Linda Avey, aiming to give individuals affordable, direct access to their genetic data. The company went public in 2021 via a SPAC merger backed by Sir Richard Branson’s Virgin Group, initially enjoying success before the breach and financial collapse took hold.

All Eyes on June 12

As the June 12 bidding deadline nears, the stakes are higher than ever. Will Anne Wojcicki, armed with Fortune 500 support, reclaim the company she built from the ground up?

CWEB analysts believe the odds have now shifted dramatically in her favor, setting the stage for a high-stakes corporate showdown that could reshape the future of consumer genomics.
