Former Donald Trump lawyer Jenna Ellis entered a guilty plea in an election meddling case in Georgia. An unexpected new turn in the legal dispute over the 2020 presidential election has shown the repercussions of bringing unfounded allegations of election fraud. Ellis, a loud advocate for Trump’s allegations that the election was rigged, is now up against the legal system she once praised.

Allegations of Georgia electoral tampering in the 2020 presidential election are at the heart of the lawsuit. Jenna Ellis was accused of propagating unsubstantiated reports of widespread voting fraud and seeking to influence state officials to damage the credibility of the election. Discussions about the legitimacy of the election have focused heavily on these allegations.

In the wide-ranging racketeering case centered on efforts to keep then-President Donald Trump in office after his 2020 loss to Joe Biden, Ellis is the fourth defendant to enter a guilty plea.

Just prior to the start of their trial, attorneys Kenneth Chesebro and Sidney Powell filed guilty pleas last week. A bail bondsman named Scott Hall entered a guilty plea in September.

Ellis entered a plea of guilty to one felony count of aiding and abetting false statements and writings in exchange for truthful testimony at subsequent trials. Racketeering was one of the two counts against her.
