A man believed to be a former spouse broke into a home in the Houston area Thursday evening and shot four people who were celebrating Thanksgiving, killing two and injuring two others. A woman and a man were pronounced dead at the scene.
The family had just finished eating Thanksgiving dinner together when the deceased’s ex-husband came in through the backdoor and opened fire on them, according to Houston Police Department Assistant Chief Patricia Cantu. The man was in critical condition at a hospital, while the 15-year-old boy was in stable condition. Police did not immediately identify the suspect, and no arrests were made, but Cantu stated that the shooter was believed to be the deceased woman’s ex-husband.
The suspect, who is known to be the deceased female’s ex-husband, is expected to have come in through the back door and started shooting at the people inside the house, Cantu said. The suspect might have unloaded multiple rounds and at least once reloaded the firearm during the rampage, the chief said.
Police later confirmed that a girl under the age of ten was present in the house at the time of the shooting. She slept through the entire thing. She was reportedly taken away from the scene by Child Protective Services on Friday morning.
Early Friday morning, Cantu stated that they had no idea where the suspect was and they do not know him yet. They will be taking help from the public and the media for apprehending the man who killed two people and injured two others in this house.
Detectives stated that they do not have surveillance video because there were no working cameras, according to neighbors. Police have no information about the vehicle in which the suspect may have fled. The shooting has been termed a “domestic-related incident.”
