A woman suspected of participating in the Capitol siege on January 6, 2021, has been identified by her ex-boyfriend who recognized her from a photo tweeted by the FBI. The woman, Jennifer Inzuza Vargas of Los Angeles, was identified after her ex-boyfriend saw her wearing a pink beret in the FBI’s social media post which invited information about her. The ex-boyfriend, who wishes to remain anonymous, broke up with Vargas allegedly because she was reading Hitler’s manifesto, Mein Kampf.

The breakthrough in the investigation happened when a clothing designer and his friend were at a Joann Fabric and Crafts store. The friend showed him a tweet from the FBI featuring pictures of the 537th person on the agency’s “most wanted” list of Capitol riot participants. The woman in the photos, referred to as “#Pink Beret,” was wearing a white coat, black gloves, and carrying a black Dolce & Gabbana purse. The clothing designer recognized her as his ex-girlfriend, Jennifer Inzuza Vargas. He immediately tipped off the FBI, leading to the confirmation of Vargas’ identity.
Online sleuths known as “Sedition Hunters” had been trying to identify Vargas, who was referred to as #PinkBeret, who had remained elusive till now. However, the sleuths were able to confirm Vargas’ identity after seeing the clothing designer’s post, which he had deleted soon after posting. They also discovered a post in which Vargas appeared to have sold a Dolce & Gabbana purse similar to the one she was seen carrying at the Capitol.
The ex-boyfriend and Vargas reportedly had differing political views, with her expressing far-right beliefs and an admiration for Hitler, which was supposed to have deeply troubled him. Their relationship ended due to disagreements over her views on immigrants and her support for Hitler.

Despite their divergent interests, they remained in touch sporadically. The ex-boyfriend discovered that Vargas was in Washington on January 6 and even asked her if she was on the “no-fly” list, to which she denied entering the Capitol but admitted to being present in Washington to support the former President. Donald Trump. However, video evidence later viewed by NBC News contradicted Vargas’ claim, suggesting she was indeed inside the Capitol.
Vargas reportedly stole a black camera duffel bag, wandered the Capitol grounds, controlled traffic outside the Capitol doors, and supplied water bottles to other rioters in the Capitol Crypt. She has not yet been charged with anything. Her case is one of hundreds that are still pending.
