Darius Miles, the former Alabama basketball player charged with capital murder for his alleged role in the fatal shooting of Jamea Harris in January, has entered a not-guilty plea, court documents showed Monday.

The Tuscaloosa News first reported that Miles’ defense attorney entered the plea, and that Miles also waived his right to be present at an arraignment.

Miles and another man, Michael Lynn Davis, have been held without bond since Jan. 15 and were indicted by a grand jury earlier this month. Miles’ and Davis’ attorneys requested the men be released on bond and claimed they shot in self-defense, but a judge denied bond in February.

Police investigating the shooting near the university’s campus believe Davis fired the gun, but that the weapon belonged to Miles. Further, police testified in February that Alabama star player Brandon Miller brought Miles the gun at Miles’ request the night of the shooting.

Miller, who recently declared for the NBA draft and is expected to be a lottery pick, is not facing criminal charges.

Alabama removed Miles from the team following his arrest Jan. 15.
