Evil Dead Rise Movie Review
In Evil Dead Rise, cousins Teresa and Jessica and Jessica’s boyfriend Caleb embark on a seemingly idyllic vacation at a lakeside cabin. However, their peaceful retreat turns into a nightmare when Jessica, appearing mysteriously ill, unleashes a wave of terror. In a gruesome sequence, she scalps Teresa and decapitates Caleb before eerily levitating above the lake.
The film then rewinds to a day earlier, where we meet guitar technician Beth, grappling with the news of her unexpected pregnancy. Seeking solace, she visits her sister Ellie, a tattoo artist and single mother of three: Danny, Bridget, and young Kassie. They live in Monde Apartments, a dilapidated building in Los Angeles slated for demolition.
An earthquake shakes their world and reveals a hidden chamber in the basement parking lot. Danny explores the chamber, driven by curiosity and the potential to help his struggling family. He uncovers a trove of religious artifacts, three phonograph records from 1923, and a sinister book. Danny takes the book, hoping to sell it for some much-needed cash.
As Danny delves into the contents of the first record, he learns about the ill-fated attempts of a priest to study the book, identified as one of three volumes of the Naturom Demonto. The subsequent records reveal that undeterred by warnings, the priest continues his research in secrecy. His reckless recitation of an incantation awakens malevolent forces, summoning the demonic entities known as Deadites.
A relentless and horrifying battle for survival ensues as Beth, Ellie, and the children confront the unleashed evil within the confines of their crumbling home. Evil Dead Rise masterfully blends visceral horror with a compelling narrative, delivering a chilling addition to the iconic Evil Dead franchise.
