With sincere apologies to celebrity Britney Spears, Oops! Elon Musk did it again. The CEO of Tesla is known for his controversial posts on social media, which is generally lapped up by most of his fans and followers. This time, he did get some criticism as he sounded like the boy who cried Wolf and some fans at least are tired of his antics and stop taking his posts seriously as this behavior can be classified as juvenile. This time Musk joked about buying legendary football club Manchester United.
Elon Musk posted on Twitter about his support for some Republicans and some Democrats and that he was buying Manchester United.
Earlier, some fans had urged him to buy the club, on Twitter. The Red Devils have not won any English league title in almost the past decade, just after the U.S. based Glazer family bought the English football club. The last title won by Manchester United was in 2013.
Musk’s tweet got more than 5,000 likes within six hours, following which he clarified that it was a joke. He said that he was not planning to buy a football club but if he did, the world’s richest billionaire said that he would buy Man United as the club had been his favorite one, when he was a kid.
When asked for comment, none of the people involved responded while the club declined to comment.
However, his followers and others posted mixed reactions on social media. Comments ranged from calling it a tweet from somebody who never thought twice before posting something to calling it a “gimmick.” These comments have some truth behind it as the 51-year old Tesla boss had posted controversial remarks that sometimes can be considered as non factual. At times, hours later, he posts that his comments were jokes.
Manchester United temporarily gained as its stock briefly saw a surge of 17 percent which later settled at about 3 percent above closing price, on Tuesday, after Elon Musk decided to post that he was planning to buy Man United.
