Due to customer complaints, Airbnb is changing its booking process to display visitors a larger portion of the overall cost up front.
According to firm CEO Brian Chesky, formerly hidden cleaning costs and service charges would now be visible in search results.
Before they check out, Airbnb guests will soon be able to view the exact cost of their reservations, changing a long-standing regulation that had irked many of them.
The opportunity to check the complete cost of bookings, including all fees and taxes, will be available to customers starting next month. The cost will be displayed in the listing views, map results, and filter results. Additionally, users will have access to complete price breakdowns that include taxes, discounts, and service charges from Airbnb.
The adjustment means that the search ranking system will now give priority to total price rather than nightly pricing. According to the firm, for comparable properties in a location, the listings with the best overall quality and prices will appear higher in search results.
The long-awaited assault on Airbnb hosts is moving forward in New York City, where officials on Friday proposed a stringent new registration system for hosts that will go into force in January.
Airbnb hosts will be required to submit diagrams of their apartments as well as documentation that their listings are permanent residences in accordance with proposed rules that were quietly and unexpectedly made public on Friday, which will, among other things, prohibit hosts from renting out an “entire registered dwelling unit.”
The “complete legal name of all permanent inhabitants of the dwelling” and their relationship to the host must also be listed by hosts. If they are renting, they must also submit their leases and attest that they are aware of all the terms. The 30-page paper states that they will also need to give their leases if they are renting, as well as attest that they are aware of all zoning rules, building code standards, and other aspects of the “multiple dwelling law.”
I’ve heard you loud and clear–you feel like prices aren’t transparent and checkout tasks are a pain. That’s why we’re making 4 changes:
