DOTA News: Xtreme Gaming, Falcons advance in PGL Wallachia playoffs

Xtreme Gaming and Team Falcons each recorded a sweep on Thursday to advance to the upper bracket semifinals of the Dota PGL Wallachia Season 1 event in Bucharest, Romania.

Xtreme Gaming posted a 2-0 victory over G2 x iG to set up an encounter versus Team Spirit on Friday in the upper bracket semis. Xtreme Gaming notched 27- and 67-minute wins on green.

Team Spirit had a tougher time of it against Aurora on Thursday. Aurora seized a 71-minute win on red before Team Spirit answered with 41- and 40-minute victories on green.

Also on Thursday, Team Falcons secured a 2-0 win over BOOM Esports after collecting 32- and 34-minute wins on green.

They advanced to face Team Liquid, who notched a 2-1 triumph over Gaimin Gladiators. The Gladiators posted a 35-minute win on green before Liquid responded with 39- and 37-minute victories on green.

The $1 million Dota 2 event started with 16 teams in a modified Swiss-system group stage. The top eight teams will begin the double-elimination playoffs on Thursday, while the bottom eight were eliminated.

All matches in the tournament are best-of-three except for the best-of-five grand final on Sunday. The winner will earn $300,000, with the runner-up receiving $175,000.
