Four teams emerged as winners in the quarterfinals of The International Sunday, as Team Liquid, Cloud9, Tundra Esports and Gaimin Gladiators all advanced to the upper bracket semifinals in Copenhagen, Denmark.
The losing teams — nouns, Team Falcons, Aurora and Xtreme Gaming – all fell into the lower bracket and await for their opponents to be determined by Round 1 matches over the next two days.
Team Liquid defeated Xtreme Gaming 2-0, winning in 39 minutes playing on red and in 19 minutes playing on green.
Cloud9 downed Aurora 2-0 by winning in 35 minutes (playing on green) and 39 minutes (playing on red).
Tundra Esports got the 2-0 victory over Team Falcons, winning on green in 36 minutes and on red in 68 minutes.
Gaimin Gladiators had the toughest route to victory of the bunch, falling behind nouns 1-0 after losing in 36 minutes while on red. They pulled off the reverse sweep, winning in 36 minutes and 27 minutes, both on green.
Talon Esports will face BetBoom Team for the right to face nouns, while 1w Team takes on Team Zero with Team Falcons awaiting, all to be played on Monday.
On Tuesday, beastcoast and HEROIC square off with Aurora awaiting the winner, while Xtreme Gaming will take on the winner of Team Spirit vs. G2 x iG.
Sixteen teams entered the seeding deciders following the group stage last week. They were broken into eight decider matches to determine their starting position in the double-elimination playoff bracket.
The winners began the main event in the upper bracket, and the losing sides will start out in the lower bracket, beginning Monday. All matches are best-of-three until the grand final, which is best-of-five.
The champions will earn 45 percent of the prize pool, which began with a base of $1.6 million and will increase based on sales within the game.
