DOTA News: Tundra get key win on final day of groups at DreamLeague

Tundra Esports earned a victory on the final day of Group Stage 1 action to secure second place in Group B on Wednesday at DreamLeague Season 19.

Tundra (3-1-3) swept nouns in 43 minutes on red and 62 minutes on green to avoid Thursday’s tiebreakers and advance to Group Stage 2. nouns finished last in the group and were eliminated.

Team Liquid played to a tie with beastcoast but finished first in Group B with a 4-0-3 mark.

Gaimin Gladiators, Shopify Rebellion and Evil Geniuses all finished in a tie for first place in Group A with identical 3-0-4 records. The Gladiators and Shopify closed Group Stage 1 with wins to catch up to EG, who played to a tie on Wednesday. All three are safely into Group Stage 2.

Sixteen teams are competing in the $1 million Dota 2 event, which runs through April 23. The winner will receive $300,000 and qualification to the Riyadh Masters.

Two groups consisting of eight teams will battle in Group Stage 1, where all matches are best-of-two in a single round-robin format. The top four teams from each group move on to Group Stage 2, while the bottom four teams are eliminated.

Group Stage 2 merges all eight teams into one group and features best-of-three matches. Four teams advance to the playoffs, with the top two teams moving into the upper bracket and the third- and fourth-place finishers competing in the lower bracket.

Those four teams will duke it out in a double-elimination bracket. All playoff matches are best-of-three, besides the April 23 grand final, which is best-of-five. Whoever wins that match earns the $300,000 and qualifies for the Riyadh Masters.

Thursday’s tiebreakers will decide 4th-6th place in Group A and 3rd-5th place in Group B.

Team Aster open against Execration on Thursday in the Group A tiebreakers. TSM also are vying for a top 4 spot to advance. One team will advance from the tiebreakers.

Team Spirit open against OG in the Group B tiebreakers, with beastcoast also vying for a top 4 spot. Two of the three teams will advance from the tiebreakers.

The Gladiators defeated TSM in 25 minutes on green and 52 minutes on red to earn a tie atop Group A. Shopify beat ex-HellRaisers in 33 minutes and 44 minutes, both on green, to join the cluster.

Group Stage 2 action begins Friday.
