DOTA News: OG, Falcons take upset losses in DreamLeague Season 27 playoffs

OG and Team Falcons, two of the top three teams in the DreamLeague Season 27 group stage, dropped their openers in the double-elimination playoffs on Wednesday.

Team Spirit, who joined OG and Team Falcons in posting a 5-1 group-stage record, won their first playoff match, downing Xtreme Gaming 2-0 in the upper-bracket quarterfinals.

Tundra Esports swept OG 2-0, and PARIVISION got past Team Falcons 2-0.

The last upper-bracket quarterfinal match, Virtus.pro vs. Team Yandex, is scheduled for Thursday.

The $1 million Dota 2 event began with 24 teams competing in a Swiss System group stage. All matches were best-of-three, with the top eight teams advancing to the double-elimination playoffs.

Playoff matches will all be best-of-three ahead of the best-of-five grand final on Sunday.

The championship team will receive $200,000 in prize money and a $30,000 club reward. The runner-up side will get $125,000 and a $25,000 club reward.

On Wednesday, Team Spirit rolled past Xtreme Gaming in 70 minutes on green and 38 minutes on red. Ukraine’s Illya “Yatoro” Mulyarchuk led Spirit with a 31/10/22 kill-death-assist ratio. Malaysia’s Cheng “NothingToSay” Jin Xiang wound up at 19/13/32 for Xtreme Gaming.

Tundra Esports trounced OG in 36 minutes and 44 minutes, both on red. Russia’s Ivan “Pure” Moskalenko registered a 16-8-24 K-D-A ratio for Tundra Esports. The Philippines’ John “Natsumi-” Vargas posted a 17-13-12 K-D-A ratio for OG.

PARIVISION dumped Team Falcons in 51 minutes and 71 minutes, both on green. Russia’s Alan “Satanic” Gallyamov amassed a 27/7/21 K-D-A ratio for PARIVISION. Russia’s Stanislav “Malr1ne” Potorak logged a 20/13/26 K-D-A ratio for Team Falcons.
