DOTA News: BOOM, G2 x iG and Liquid reach PGL Wallachia playoffs

BOOM Esports, G2 x iG and Team Liquid seized the final three playoff spots on Wednesday at the Dota PGL Wallachia Season 1 event in Bucharest, Romania.

BOOM defeated Shopify Rebellion and G2 x iG eliminated BetBoom Team with 2-1 wins before Liquid swept Team Secret to complete the group stage action.

The $1 million Dota 2 event started with 16 teams in a modified Swiss-system group stage. The top eight teams will begin the double-elimination playoffs on Thursday, while the bottom eight were eliminated.

All matches in the tournament are best-of-three except for the best-of-five grand final on Sunday. The winner will earn $300,000, with the runner-up receiving $175,000.

On Wednesday, Shopify Rebellion opened with a 27-minute win on red before BOOM Esports rallied with 46- and 43-minute wins, both on green. G2 x iG sandwiched a 40-minute win on red and a 40-minute win on green around BetBoom Team’s 37-minute victory on green. Liquid outlasted Secret with a 49-minute victory on green and a 56-minute win on red.
