DOTA News: Aurora, XG keep rolling at win PGL Wallachia

Through two days of the Dota 2 PGL Wallachia Season 1, Aurora and Xtreme Gaming have asserted themselves as the early class of the field.

Both clubs pulled off impressive sweeps on Saturday in becoming two of four teams to improve to 2-0 in the tournament. Aurora topped BetBoom Team while XG did the same to Team Liquid.

The $1 million Dota 2 event is beginning with 16 teams in a modified Swiss-system group stage. The top eight teams will advance to the double-elimination playoffs, while the bottom eight will be eliminated.

All matches in the tournament are best-of-three except for the grand final on May 19, which will be best-of-five. The championship side will make $300,000, with the runner-up receiving $175,000.

In Saturday’s first match, Aurora beat BetBoom in 48 minutes and 52 minutes, both times on green. Ukraine’s Artem “lorenof” Melnick collected 25 kills, five deaths and 31 assists in the two map wins.

XG followed that with an equally dominant showing, beating Liquid in 37 minutes on red and 41 minutes on green. Guo “Xm” Hongcheng collected 16 kills and 14 assists in the second match. Zhao “XinQ” Zixing compiled 37 assists in the two maps.

In the other two matchups between Day 1 winners, Team Falcons beat nouns 2-1 and Gaimin Gladiators took care of Team Spirit by the same score.

In the four games between Day 1 losers, BOOM Esports beat HEROIC and MOUZ downed Azure Ray, both in 2-0 sweeps, while Shopify Rebellion beat Virtus.pro and Team Secret topped G2 x iG, both by 2-1 scores.

Play continues Sunday with eight more matches.
