Donald Trump has been certified as the President of the United States of America on January 6, 2025. On a day when a winter storm blew through the capital and blanketed the Capitol, Trump once again became the nation’s president. The electoral college votes were counted. Donald Trump was certified as the president, and J D Vance was appointed vice president by outgoing vice president Kamala Harris, who lost to Trump in the November 2024 elections.
As President of the Senate, Kamala Harris announced Donald Trump’s victory after the electoral college votes of each state in the nation were counted. She said that Trump won 312 electoral college votes and declared him to be the president of the US. She also said that she won 226 electoral college votes.
Kamala Harris said, “This announcement of the state of the vote by the president of the Senate shall be deemed a sufficient declaration of the persons elected president and vice president of the United States, each for a term beginning on the 20th day of January 2025 and shall be entered together with the list of the votes on the journals of the House and the Senate. Thank you very much.”
Kamala Harris and Johnson, the Speaker of the House, shook hands after Harris completed her remarks.
Republicans cheered while Democrats remained calm, unlike the proceedings in the earlier 2020 elections. There was a dignified handing over of power.
Just after 1.30 p.m., Kamala Harris dissolved the joint session of Congress. She shook hands with members belonging to both chambers. J D Vance also shook hands with several Republicans who congratulated him and took photos with him.
