He was found guilty of falsifying business records to pay an adult film star to buy her silence. The sex scandal cover-up had been initiated to stop the derailment of his 2016 presidential campaign, and it succeeded at that time as Trump won the 2016 elections.
A jury of twelve New Yorkers deliberated over the case for two days after a six-week trial. On Thursday, May 30, they found Trump guilty of all the charges. The trial consisted of descriptions of scandals in tabloids and secret deals that remained whispered about and discussed in the media until they came out into the open during the trial.
Donald Trump has been found guilty of covering up a $130,000 “hush money” payment to an adult film star called Stormy Daniels. He was found guilty of 34 felony charges. He has now got the label of a convicted felon. However, he remains the presidential candidate for the Republican Party as a felony conviction cannot bar a citizen from standing for a presidential election according to the nation’s constitution.
Donald Trump was present in court. He addressed the press after coming out of the courtroom. He said that it was a “scam” and that he was “a very innocent man” and more. He also told reporters the actual verdict will come “on November 5 by the people.”
Alvin Bragg, the District Attorney, said in a press conference on Thursday evening, “While this defendant may be unlike any other in American history, we arrived at this trial and, ultimately, today, at this verdict in the same manner as any other case that comes through the courtroom doors.”
President Joe Biden has not commented on the case yet, and Democrats have also maintained a low profile.
Although Donald Trump faces four trials, only this case has seen a verdict by a jury before the November presidential elections, and the others have been delayed for various reasons. Motions from the defense are due by June 27. The hearing for Trump’s sentencing is scheduled for July 11.
