Derik Queen paired 20 points with nine rebounds and Julian Reese logged a double-double as Maryland throttled Alcorn State 96-58 on Sunday afternoon in College Park, Md.

Queen made all eight of his free-throw attempts, while Reese went 10-of-12 at the line and finished with 14 points and 11 rebounds. Selton Miguel scored 14 points, Rodney Rice added 12 and DeShawn Harris-Smith netted 10 for the Terrapins (7-1), who shot 57.1 percent from the field and racked up 25 assists on 32 made field goals.

Keionte Cornelius tallied 12 points and Omari Hamilton and Jalyke Gaines-Wyatt each chipped in 10 for the Braves (0-9). Alcorn State made just 31.3 percent of its field goals and had 11 shots blocked, including six by Tafara Gapare.

The Braves hung with the hosts for the game’s first eight minutes and led 16-12 after a 12-1 run. Maryland eventually took control after Antonio Lisenbee’s layup pulled Alcorn State even at 20-20, ripping off a 25-2 run over the next 5 1/2 minutes.

Miguel hit one of the Terrapins’ four 3-pointers during the surge, and his jumper at the 3:47 mark capped a string of 10 consecutive makes that boosted Maryland ahead 44-22. Reese’s free throw closed the run with 3:09 left.

Hamilton responded with the Braves’ first field goal in almost seven minutes and scored the game’s next seven points to close the visitors within 45-31. The Terrapins entered the break up 48-31 after Miguel got a shooter’s roll on his third 3-pointer with 20 seconds remaining.

Alcorn State battled early in the second half, trimming the deficit to 14 at 58-44 after scoring 10 straight points. Maryland steadied itself to build a 66-49 lead before emphatically pulling away over the final 11:10.

Harris-Smith and Jay Young hit back-to-back triples to punctuate a 14-0 run that boosted the lead to 36, and Rice later gave the Terrapins their largest cushion at 41 points with a 3-pointer that made it 94-53 with 3:05 left.
