On Wednesday, popular diner Denny’s confirmed the closure of its restaurant located in Oakland. The restaurant had been functioning for 54 years. The reason for the closure was mentioned as the safety and security of guests and workers. Earlier, an In-and-Out nearby had also said it would be shuttered after citing a similar reason.
Denny’s in Oakland, California, was located at 601 Hegenberger Road. It was located right across the I-880 from the 8300 Oakport Street In-N-Out in Oakland. It closed at 1 p.m. on Wednesday. Employees were told that it would be closed down on Tuesday, and some employees were reportedly in tears as they heard the news.
Customers also expressed anguish at the closing of the diner. They called it a sad day as the restaurant had been functioning for decades. Some of them said that they had been regular customers.
Denny’s said that “the safety and well-being” of its “team members and valued guests” was the reason for shuttering the restaurant.
Denny’s said that it was an honor to have served the Oakland community for more than 54 years. It also thanked its “team members and the local community for their love of the Denny’s brand” and described it as “a pleasure” to serve them. The chain offered positions to workers of its shuttered Oakland positions elsewhere, where they might be available.
