Earlier this year, the Daily Mail dropped a bombshell on its readers and many more when it said that one of America’s favorite stars Jane Krakowski was dating Mike Lindell, the CEO of MyPillow. Lindell sued the tabloid and the news agency is asking a judge not to allow him to amend his lawsuit as reporting on dating someone and buying them alcohol cannot be considered as defamation.
The Hollywood Reporter said that Kelli Sager, who is one of the Daily Mail’s lawyers, put forth the argument that even a devout Christian would not be the target of hatred and contempt due to a report that he dated a popular actress and that he gave her gifts; one of which was alcohol. She also called him a public figure as he recently appeared on the popular show Jimmy Kimmel Live!
She also added that Lindell, who is now sober, amended his lawsuit because he was unable to find a single case where statements about a consensual relationship or those that involved gifts of alcohol were defamatory and it didn’t matter whether the person was a recovered addict, was pious or was conservative.
She also argued that the article in the tabloid didn’t mention that he drank alcohol, nor did it say that he engaged in sexual misconduct. It also didn’t imply anything about his professed Evangelical Christian faith.
Lindell had claimed that the rumor that he had purchased alcohol resulted in a few churches staying away from the Lindell Recovery Network, a non for profit organization. He admitted to being a crack addict in the past on the Jimmy Kimmel Show and said that he has recovered and has admitted to his past addiction, whenever necessary.
Sager also that even if the Daily Mail’s statements were considered to be defamatory; Lindell himself had tarnished his reputation. She took a crack at his public reputation by mentioning his advocacy of fake cures for COVID-19, his baseless theories about election fraud and his support of martial law to overturn the November 2020 election results.
Both America’s favorite Jane Krakowski of 30 Rock and Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt star and conservative favorite Mike Lindell, CEO of MyPillow and pro-Trump perpetuator of baseless conspiracy theories deny that they have ever dated though it was rumored by the Daily Mail.
