Alphabet Google CEO Sundar Pichai

CWEB has been reporting about the annual I/O developers conference that Alphabet’s Google holds every year in Mountain View, California. CWEB had reported that the tech giant would concentrate on its AI capabilities and improvements on its generative AI Gemini this May. CWEB was correct in its predictions and summarized the major developments mentioned by Google at the Tuesday I/O conference.

CWEB reports the following major advances by all divisions of Alphabet Inc.
Google rolled out new updates on Gemini. It is called Gemini 1.5 Pro and has enhanced data handling ability. Users can upload 1,500 pages, and Gemini 1.5 summarizes the contents.

Google also introduced the Gemini 1.5 Flash AI model. This tool is cost-effective and can be used for smaller tasks, including summaries of conversations, adding captions to images, and pulling data from huge documents.

Gemini 1.5 will enable translations in 35 languages. Within Gmail, Gemini will summarize long threads of conversations and attachments if users are away from work for multiple reasons, including vacations and more. Google expects Gemini to replace Google Assistant over time.

Other major announcements from Google included Veo. This new model generates high definition video.

Alphabet-owned Google also announced Imagen 3. This tool offers a high-quality text-to-image feature. The tech giant says the images are lifelike and that they have decreased the “distracting visual artifacts” compared with earlier models.

Another new tool by Google shown at I/O is Audio Overviews. The chatbot can generate audio discussions that are based on text input.

The tech giant also showed AI Sandbox that included tools to create music and sound from scratch after receiving user prompts.

On Monday, Google will launch AI Overviews on Google Search. It will show a summary of answers when complex search questions are asked by users.

It also introduced AI Teammate that would be integrated in Google Workspace. It can access and summarize information from Gmail, Google Docs and other apps on Workspace.

Google I/O also showed Project Astra that will function as an all knowing assistant.

It also announced Trillium, the tech giant’s latest hardware that will be available in late 2024. Google Cloud customers can avail themselves of Trillium, the six-generation TPU or tensor processing unit used to run complex AI operations.
