Microsoft founder Bill Gates has softened his stand on climate change. The philanthropist, whose foundation has donated billions to promote clean technology, sustainability and research on climate change, has recently said in a new memo that climate change will not wipe out humanity. He notes that climate change is serious but it will not be the cause for the demise of humanity.
President Donald Trump responded to the memo with a post on his social media platform Truth Social.
He wrote, “I, (WE!) just won the war on the Climate Change Hoax. Bill Gates has finally admitted that he was completely WRONG on the issue. It took courage to do so, and for that we are all grateful.”
In the lengthy memo Bill Gates also said, “People will be able to live and thrive in most places on Earth for the foreseeable future.”
He noted that reducing poverty as well as diseases across the world would help poorer populations to have a better chance of dealing with climate change.
Bill Gates mentioned funding health and development programs would make people more resilient and be in a better position to tackle climate change.
He highlighted the progress made to reduce emissions and remained positive about the impact of future technologies in improving climate change.
Governments across the world have cut funds for clean energy and climate initiatives. Many international programs to reduce poverty and improve health across the world have also seen major cuts.
With a reduction in overall funding for vulnerable people and places, CWEB analysts believe that there should be an equitable distribution of funds. Funding to tackle climate change remains a priority but there are also many other worthy causes that require funds.
Planet earth has also gone through several natural upheavals such as extreme heat and cold conditions as well as flooding before humans appeared on earth. Greenhouse gases and emissions do affect the planet, but our reporters also think that ultimately nature takes its own course.
