CWEB News reports that the Office of Brigitte Macron, France’s esteemed First Lady, will present comprehensive scientific and photographic evidence before a United States court to formally and definitively refute spurious allegations concerning her gender. This legal action comes in response to claims propagated by conservative commentator Candace Owens, who publicly asserted, without foundation, that Madame Macron was born male. In light of these injurious falsehoods, President Emmanuel Macron and his wife have initiated a defamation lawsuit against Ms. Owens.
During an appearance on the BBC’s “Fame Under Fire” podcast, Thomas Clare, legal counsel for the Macrons, elucidated the profound personal impact of these accusations. He stated that Madame Macron found the claims to be “incredibly upsetting,” and that the strain has also affected President Macron, who must navigate the demands of leading the French Republic while supporting his family through this orchestrated smear campaign. Mr. Clare further indicated that the legal rebuttal would include “expert testimony that will come out that will be scientific in nature,” underscoring the seriousness with which the First Couple is confronting these fabrications.

The lawsuit, initially filed in July, contends that Owens deliberately favored “conspiracy theorists and proven defamers” over credible evidence. President Macron himself addressed the matter in an August interview with Paris Match, explaining that pursuing legal recourse was a necessary step to defend their honor against what he termed “nonsense.” He characterized Owens’s actions as a malicious attempt “to cause harm and serve an ideology.”
The origin of this baseless rumor is traced to the fringe segments of French media in 2021, notably amplified by bloggers Amandine Roy and Natacha Rey. While the Macrons successfully won an initial defamation case against the bloggers in France in 2024, the ruling was unfortunately overturned on appeal in 2025 on grounds of free expression.
Candace Owens subsequently leveraged her significant platform to internationalize the false narrative, declaring in March 2024 that she would stake her “entire professional reputation” on its veracity. Her legal team has now motioned for the U.S. case’s dismissal, framing the matter as an issue of free speech rather than defamation.
