Movie Review: Alien: Earth– A Gripping Return to the Franchise’s Dark Origins
Alien: Earth, the latest chapter in the legendary sci-fi horror franchise, is an ambitious prequel series created by Noah Hawley. Set two years before the events of Ridley Scott’s 1979 Alien, the show reimagines Earth as the new battleground in humanity’s most terrifying survival story. The series premieres on FX and FX on Hulu on August 12, 2025.
The story begins when a mysterious space vessel crash-lands on Earth, prompting a young woman and a group of tactical soldiers to investigate. What they uncover is a chilling threat that may be more advanced and more familiar than anyone expected.
The show explores not just alien terror, but the growing divide between synthetic lifeforms and humans, drawing deep from the franchise’s recurring themes of identity, control, and corporate exploitation.
Leading the cast is Sydney Chandler as Wendy, the franchise’s first hybrid character—a fusion of robotic body and human consciousness. Her journey is guided by Kirsh, her synthetic mentor, played with quiet intensity by Timothy Olyphant.
Alex Lawther portrays CJ “Hermit,” a gritty human soldier, while Samuel Blenkin takes on the role of Boy Kavalier, a calculating corporate CEO. The cast also includes Essie Davis as Dame Silvia, and Adarsh Gourav as Slightly, one of several synthetics that add depth to the show’s complex human-machine dynamic.
Additional standout performances come from Kit Young as Tootles, David Rysdahl as Arthur, Babou Ceesay as Morrow, and Jonathan Ajayi as Smee. Erana James, Lily Newmark, and Diêm Camille portray other key figures in the unfolding conflict, including synthetic and human soldiers caught in the chaos. Adrian Edmondson appears as the mysterious Atom Eins.
With a rich ensemble and a return to the franchise’s brooding tone, *Alien: Earth* looks poised to deliver both the cerebral and visceral thrills that fans expect, while charting new territory in the mythology of synthetic life and xenomorphic terror.
Premieres August 12 on FX Networks and Hulu, and with HuluOnDisneyPlus.
