The X-Men franchise is back for yet another season. It is so popular in the US that a weekend announcement said that Season 3 of the show has been renewed even before the release of Season 2. The first season of X-Men 97 opened to a rousing success, following which Season 2 was announced.
The announcement of X-Men Season 3 was made at New York Comic Con. Season 2 will see a summer 2026 release. Evil mutant Apocalypse has returned and X-Men favorite characters who were sent to the past and the future have to find their way to the 1990s.
Disney Plus debuted the first season of X-Men 97, picking up from the end of X-Men: The Animated Series in 1997. The superhero team that is still distrusted by many normal humans is in shambles as their top enemy Magneto takes control after the apparent death of Professor Charles Xavier.

Professor Charles Xavier returns to earth to help the X-Men defeat Bastion. Professor Charles, was apparently living with the Shi’ar alien empire, comes back to help the super heroes defeat the Bastion, who are a powerful hybrid of human and robot Sentinel. Season 1 ends with some of the team reaching the past while others reach the future.
When season 1 ended, the following was revealed:
Team Past includes Rouge, Beast, and Nightcrawler from the X-Men who reached ancient Egypt. Mentor Professor Charles and arch villain Magneto are also stranded with them in Egypt circa 3000 B.C.
Apocalypse a young and future supervillain also appears and it appears as if Gambit may not have faced death. Despite Wolverine losing adamantium from his body in the second last episode, there are hopes for his revival as the Marvel metal alloy is almost indestructible.
Meanwhile much is not known about Cyclops and Jean Grey except that have reached the future and are in 3960 A.D.
Season 2 promises to be exciting for web fans with the intermingling of the past, present, and future. The announcement of Season 3 is also a bonus but much about the X-Men ‘97 animated series will remain unknown till Season 2 is released next year.
