Disgraced R&B singer R. Kelly was reportedly rushed to the hospital last week after allegedly overdosing on prescription medication while incarcerated. According to sources and court documents obtained by CWEB News, his legal team is now seeking a temporary furlough to home detention, claiming his life is in danger due to a possible murder plot.
Documents filed in federal court allege that prison officials intentionally overdosed the 58-year-old singer, nearly killing him. Kelly, whose real name is Robert Sylvester Kelly, was reportedly found unconscious in solitary confinement and transported to Duke University Hospital in Durham, North Carolina, on June 13. He remained hospitalized for two days.
Kelly’s lawyers assert that he was administered dangerously high doses of sleep and anti-anxiety medications. They further claim he was forcibly removed from the hospital “at gunpoint” against medical advice. Medical personnel allegedly discovered blood clots, but Kelly was denied necessary surgery, according to filings.
In addition to the alleged overdose, Kelly is reportedly being held in “miserable conditions,” including claims that he has been deprived of food. His attorneys insist that the overdose was not accidental but deliberate, raising serious questions about his safety behind bars.

Currently detained at the Federal Correctional Institution in Butner, North Carolina, Kelly is serving a 30-year sentence handed down in 2022 for racketeering and sex trafficking. He also received an additional 20-year sentence for child pornography charges in a separate case; the sentences are running concurrently.
Both the prison facility and the Federal Bureau of Prisons declined to comment, citing policies restricting public discussion of inmate matters.
Kelly’s attorneys filed an emergency motion in the Northern District of Illinois, with a hearing scheduled for Friday. The outcome may determine whether he is granted temporary release.
