
Driven by a blockbuster launch that has shattered internal expectations, Nintendo has issued a significant upward revision to its sales forecast for the Switch 2 console. The gaming conglomerate now projects it will sell 19 million units of the hybrid console by the end of its current fiscal year in March 2026, a staggering increase of over 25 percent from its initial projection of 15 million units.
This bold adjustment was detailed in the company’s latest earnings report, underscoring a launch velocity that has eclipsed even the most optimistic industry predictions.
The financial results for the period from April to September reveal the foundation of this newfound confidence. An impressive 10.36 million Switch 2 consoles have already been sold since its June release, with 4.54 millions of those sales occurring within the latest earnings quarter.
This hardware dominance is complemented by robust software movement, with 20.62 million Switch 2 games sold to date. Consequently, Nintendo has also modestly raised its full-year game sales forecast from 45 million to 48 million units, signaling strong engagement from the burgeoning install base.
This powerful combination of hardware and software synergy has catalyzed a financial windfall for the Kyoto-based company. Nintendo reported a monumental 110 percent surge in revenue, which skyrocketed to ¥1,099.5 billion (approximately $7.1 billion) for the six-month period, a dramatic leap from the ¥523.2 billion ($3.4 billion) reported during the same timeframe last year.
Bolstered by this performance, the company has also elevated its full-year sales forecast to ¥2,250 billion ($14.6 billion), noting that these revised figures already account for potential impacts from recent US tariff measures.
The strategic success of the Switch 2 appears to be seamlessly continuing the legacy of its predecessor, the original Switch, which secured its place as one of the best-selling consoles in history.
Looking ahead, Nintendo’s momentum shows no signs of abating. A formidable software lineup is poised to sustain the console’s feverish pace, including the recently announced “Pokémon Legends: Z-A” and anticipated heavy-hitters like “Metroid Prime 4: Beyond” and “Kirby Air Riders.” In its official statement, the company affirmed its strategy, stating, “We will aim to keep the momentum of released titles and continuously introduce new titles to expand the platform’s user base.”
This data-driven optimism paints a clear picture of a company riding a powerful wave of consumer demand, firmly positioning the Switch 2 as the next flagship device in the gaming landscape.
