CSGO News: GamerLegion, SAW advance at ESL Pro League Season 21

GamerLegion and SAW each won a third consecutive match in the ESL Pro League Season 21 on Monday in Stockholm to advance out of Group Stage 1.

GamerLegion edged TYLOO 2-1, while SAW slipped past M80, with both victors improving their records to 3-0.

In the Round 3 mid matches on Monday, 3DMAX swept HEROIC 2-0, MIBR downed FURIA 2-0, Eternal Fire topped NRG 2-1, and FlyQuest edged paiN Gaming 2-1.

The first two teams eliminated were Housebets and Mindfreak. Lynn Vision Gaming trounced Housebets 2-0 and Nemiga Gaming dumped Mindfreak 2-0 in Round 3 low matches.

The $400,000 Counter-Strike: Global Offensive tournament seeded eight of its 24 teams straight into Group Stage 2: G2 Esports, Team Spirit, The MongolZ, Team Vitality, MOUZ, Natus Vincere, Team Falcons and Team Liquid.

The other 16 teams began in Group Stage 1, which features a Swiss System format of best-of-three matches. The top eight teams advance to Group Stage 2, which will also employ a Swiss System format of best-of-three matches.

Eight teams will advance to the single-elimination playoffs. The quarterfinals and semifinals will be best-of-three before the best-of-five grand final on March 16. The winning team will receive $100,000.

On Monday, GamerLegion earned a 13-7 victory on Mirage before TYLOO claimed Nuke 13-5. On the decisive third map, Inferno, GamerLegion prevailed 13-11. Sweden’s Fredrik “REZ” Sterner guided GamerLegion with 52 kills and a plus-9 kill-death differential. Jingxiang “Mercury” Wang wound up with 51 kills and a plus-7 K-D differential for all-Chinese TYLOO.

SAW thrashed M80 13-3 on Inferno, but M80 pulled level with a 13-9 decision on Ancient. SAW wrapped up the series by taking Dust II 13-10. Poland’s Jan “cej0t” Dyl paced SAW with 52 kills and a plus-11 K-D differential. Germany’s Fritz “slaxz-” Dietrich led M80 with 43 kills and a plus-1 K-D differential.

3DMAX topped HEROIC 13-5 on Nuke before needing three overtimes to win 22-20 on Train. Pierre “Ex3rcice” Bulinge posted 52 kills and a plus-13 K-D differential for all-France 3DMAX. Sweden’s Linus “LNZ” Holtang finished with 48 kills and a plus-7 K-D differential for HEROIC.

In an all-Brazilian match, MIBR cruised past FURIA 13-10 on Anubis, 13-9 on Nuke. Lucas “Lucaozy” Neves registered 31 kills and a minus-1 K-D differential for MIBR. Yuri “yuurih” Santos posted 35 kills and a plus-4 K-D differential for FURIA.

All-Turkish Eternal Fire toppled NRG 13-8 on Mirage and 13-5 on Nuke behind 45 kills and a plus-24 K-D differential from Ali “Wicadia” Haydar Yalcin. The United States’ Josh “oSee” Ohm notched 31 kills and a plus-1 K-D differential for NRG.

FlyQuest took Anubis before paiN Gaming captured Nuke, both by 13-5 scores. The last map went to overtime before FlyQuest pulled out a 16-13 decision on Inferno. Australia’s Jay “Liazz” Tregillgas recorded 49 kills and a plus-11 K-D differential for FlyQuest. Chile’s David “dav1deuS” Tapia Maldonado ended up with 55 kills and a plus-7 K-D differential.

All-Chinese Lynn Vision Gaming crushed Housebets 13-3 on both Inferno and Dust II thanks to 35 kills and a plus-18 K-D differential from Zhe “Westmelon” Niu. All-Australian Housebets got 23 kills and a minus-5 K-D differential from Damon “damyo” Portelli.

Nemiga Gaming eliminated Mindfreak 13-4 on Anubis and 13-11 on Dust II. Belarus’ Aliaksandr “1eeR” Nahorny amassed 34 kills and a plus-11 K-D differential for Nemiga. Matthew “Texta” O’Rourke had 29 kills and a minus-1 K-D differential for all-Australian Mindfreak.
