FaZe Clan recorded a 2-1 victory over Complexity Gaming on Sunday in the grand final of the $250,000 Intel Extreme Masters Sydney event in Australia.

Complexity posted a 13-11 win on Overpass before FaZe Clan responded with a 13-10 victory on Nuke and a 19-16 double-overtime triumph on Ancient.

FaZe Clan earned $100,000 and automatic qualification for IEM Katowice 2024. They are the fifth team to qualify, joining MOUZ, G2 Esports, Team Vitality and ENCE.

“It feels amazing to be the first CS2 champions,” FaZe Clan’s Havard “rain” Nygaard said. “I want to say thank you to all our fans here and around the world. This was hands down the best crowd I’ve ever played in front of.”

FaZe Clan was paced by Helvijs “broky” Saukants of Latvia and Robin “ropz” Kool of Estonia. The former had 65 kills and a plus-8 kills-to-death differential, while the latter had 63 kills and a plus-10 kills-to-death differential.

“It feels great, we’ve spent so much time practicing CS2 together before this,” ropz said. “The first loss against GamerLegion hurt, but we stuck with it and managed to come back. It’s been a turbulent year for us, but I’ve been playing as much as possible, and CS2 gave us the motivational boost to improve our performance and work harder for this IEM.”

Jonathan “EliGE” Jablonowski had 70 kills and a plus-15 kills-to-death differential for Complexity.

Prize pool and results for IEM Sydney:
1. FaZe Clan, $100,000, IEM Katowice 2024 entry
2. Complexity Gaming, $42,000
3-4. G2 Esports, MOUZ, $20,000
5-6. ENCE, BetBoom Team, $10,000
7-8. GamerLegion, Monte, $6,000
9-12. Natus Vincere, Apeks, Cloud9, Fnatic, $5,000
13-16. Team Vitality, VERTEX Esports Club, Lynn Vision Gaming, Grayhound Gaming — $4,000
