Meet the New York Liberty, the WNBA’s very own super team.

Four-time All-Star guard Courtney Vandersloot announced Thursday that she will sign with the Liberty, one day after former league MVP Breanna Stewart announced the same. The Liberty also traded for former MVP Jonquel Jones last month.

“Courtney Vandersloot is signing with the New York Liberty,” Vandersloot posted to Twitter.

ESPN reported that Vandersloot’s contract – as well as Stewart’s — is still being negotiated in order to fit under the salary cap. Stewart is willing to take substantially less money to make it work, per the report.

The Liberty are making a push to win their first WNBA title. They are the only original franchise – still active – that has yet to win one.

Vandersloot, 33, will pair up with former No. 1 overall pick Sabrina Ionescu in the backcourt.

Vandersloot was the No. 3 overall pick of the Chicago Sky in the 2011 draft and helped lead them to the 2021 WNBA title. She is averaging 10.2 points and 6.6 assists per game in 359 career contests (328 starts) 12 seasons, all with the Sky.

She is coming off back-to-back All-Star campaigns, having also earned All-Star nods in her rookie season of 2011 and 2019.

The Liberty open the 2023 season in Washington, D.C., against the Mystics.
